Diadrom Software · Embedded software component

A stand-alone bootloader built on a PBL/SBL concept

Diadrom Autotech Bootloader handles both setup of the embedded system and enables software module replacement through software download.

Standards UDS (ISO 14229) · supports work under ISO/SAE 21434 & UN R155/R156
Supported MCUs TriCore Aurix 2G (TC3xx) · S32K · MWCT2xxxS · RH850 X1x · RL78 · STM32 · PIC32CZ CA
Proven with Nippon Seiki · Zeekr · LG Innotek
What it is

Lightweight and highly customisable for the customer's needs

The bootloader has been developed during several software development and production projects for different Tier 1 and OEM customers in the automotive industry.

It carries a proven track record of adapting to different OEM-specific bootloader requirements — with reference customers such as Nippon Seiki, Zeekr and LG Innotek.

The same secure software download discipline is what UN R156 formalises for vehicles — and what defence platforms demand through decades of service. See how we work in accordance with the standards.

Proven with: Support for the Zeekr protocol VSPoverLVDS, for both GMSL1 and GMSL2 — used across the Geely family.

"Head-up displays have become an increasingly central part of the active driver support and the performance requirements are therefore very rigorous. HUD is now being developed from being a solution primarily for the premium car segment to be included in all car segments. Making a fast and safe integration into new car models is therefore very important and Nippon Seiki is very happy to have Diadrom's support in this process."
Wojciech Jędruch, Software Engineering Manager · Nippon Seiki (Europe) B.V

Advantages

Why teams pick Autotech Bootloader

  • Versions for specific OEM requirements — e.g. Volvo Cars SPA, SPA2 & SPA3, Zeekr CMA & next-generation platforms, Geely and Lynk & Co
  • Full support from the Diadrom Autotech team, on-site or off-site
  • Easily demonstrated with the supplied example application
  • Verification & validation: full test coverage from Diadrom Dolphin
  • Includes software security and authentication modules
  • Interrupted-flash recovery designed in — the resident PBL means a failed download is restarted, not fatal

Diadrom continually updates the list of supported MCUs, OEMs and protocols, and provides support for others on request. Request the full product documentation through the demo form below.

FAQ

Common questions about Autotech Bootloader

What is an automotive flash bootloader, and what does it do?

A flash bootloader is the embedded software that sets up the ECU and enables software module replacement through a controlled software download. Diadrom Autotech Bootloader is built on a primary/secondary bootloader (PBL/SBL) concept and reprograms ECUs over UDS (ISO 14229).

Can an ECU be bricked if power is lost during a software update?

That risk is precisely what a production bootloader is designed to remove. The primary bootloader (PBL) is permanently resident and never erases itself, the flash driver runs in RAM, and recovery from an interrupted flash is designed in — the application is validated at every boot, so a failed download is restarted, not fatal. The economics matter as much as the engineering: support cases and complaints caused by failed software downloads can erode the margin of an entire product line. Diadrom's production record on a Volvo Cars platform: zero units bricked by Diadrom's software since 2016.

Which microcontrollers and OEM platforms does the Diadrom bootloader support?

It runs on TriCore Aurix 2G (TC3xx), S32K, MWCT2xxxS, RH850 X1x, RL78, STM32 and PIC32CZ CA, with versions for specific OEM requirements such as Volvo Cars SPA, SPA2 and SPA3, Zeekr CMA and next-generation platforms, Geely and Lynk & Co. Diadrom continually adds supported MCUs, OEMs and protocols on request.

Is the bootloader secure, and does it support UN R156 and ISO/SAE 21434?

The bootloader includes software security and authentication modules, and its secure software download discipline is what UN R156 formalises for vehicles. It supports our customers' work under ISO/SAE 21434 and UN R155/R156.

Is the bootloader production-proven?

Yes. It has been developed across several software development and production projects for Tier 1 and OEM customers in the automotive industry, with reference customers including Nippon Seiki, Zeekr and LG Innotek.
